The Impact of Severe Eye Disease
The incidence and prevalence of severe eye diseases increase as people age. Our initial focus is on patients with early- to intermediate-stage age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and diabetic retinopathy (DR)— the leading causes of blindness. 

Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD)
The macula is crucial for central vision. AMD is a progressive retinal disease and a leading cause of irreversible blindness in people over 60. About 20M Americans have been diagnosed with AMD, 3x the number of patients with Alzheimer’s. Worldwide, 300M cases are projected by 2040. 

Diabetic Retinopathy (DR)
BR is the most common complication of diabetes and the leading cause of blindness for Americans aged 25-74. About 9.6 million Americans, or 26% of patients with diabetes, are affected by DR.
