What might be possible when every birth in California is healthy, beautiful, and abundant? Expecting Justice sees a future where the systems that care for moms during pregnancy and beyond are transformed, and treat every mom with dignity and humanity. 

Expecting Justice is a community-based organization addressing racism as a root cause and creating futures where everyone flourishes, and where Black mothers no longer experience health inequities. We have been successful in creating systems-level change through direct advocacy, deep community engagement, and pilot-to-policy innovation. 

Collaboration and accountability are at the heart of our work. We collaborate with people and organizations that influence systems and shape the social determinants of health, across interpersonal, institutional, and structural levels. Our partners include community based organizations, funders, Universities, government agencies, and providers. Our work improves equitable impact through anti-racist approaches, while building collective responsibility for urgently addressing racism and racial health disparities. We leverage our deep expertise in public health systems and as clinicians to walk alongside our partners and community leaders in ways that are sustaining real change. 

We are accountable to community members and stakeholders whose lived experience informs our approach. Our rigorous work is rooted in evidence and seeing powerful results. One of our key projects is the first pregnancy guaranteed income pilot in the U.S. operating in communities across California: the Abundant Birth Project.
