Managing Engineer at Exponent

Achim Wechsung has extensive experience in various engineering and research roles. Achim currently works at Exponent as a Managing Engineer, and previously held a position there as a Senior Engineer. Before joining Exponent, Achim worked at BASF as a Senior Engineer, Research Scientist, and Research Engineer. Achim also served as a Research Assistant and Teaching Assistant at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where they conducted research on global optimization methods and instructed graduate students in Analysis of Transport Phenomena. In addition, Achim worked as an Intern at BASF SE, where they developed and tested an interface and prioritization algorithm for process design, and they were also a Fellow Intern at McKinsey & Company, where they collaborated on projects for a client in the automotive industry.

Achim Wechsung pursued their education in a chronological order, starting from 2003 to 2008 at RWTH Aachen University, where they obtained a Diplom-Ingenieur (M.Eng.) degree in Mechanical Engineering. In 2006 to 2007, they studied abroad at Carnegie Mellon University as an exchange student, focusing on Chemical Engineering. Later, from 2008 to 2013, they attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where they earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Chemical Engineering.

In addition to their formal education, Achim Wechsung has also acquired additional certifications. In March 2021, they obtained the Professional Engineer (PE) certification from the California Board For Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists. Likewise, in February 2021, they became a Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator (CFEI) through the National Association of Fire Investigators.
