Cathy Chen, Ph.D, P.E. has a comprehensive work experience in the field of engineering analysis and evaluations of electronic devices, communications networks, and computer systems. Cathy has worked at Exponent since 2015, starting as an Associate and progressing to Senior Associate and then Managing Engineer. Their responsibilities at Exponent included in-depth engineering analysis, rapid-response evaluations, failure analyses, reverse engineering, infringement and prior art analyses for patent and trade secret matters. Cathy's background is in electrical engineering, computer systems, embedded systems, computer architecture, and optical interconnects.
Prior to Exponent, Cathy worked as a Graduate Research Assistant and Teaching Assistant at Columbia University from 2009 to 2015. As a Graduate Research Assistant, they conducted research and held office and lab hours for a graduate level course on Verilog design of computer hardware. As a Teaching Assistant, they assisted in writing homework, graded assignments, and worked with students in lab on Verilog lab projects.
Additionally, Cathy served as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at Cornell University from 2007 to 2008. In this role, they developed tools in the Computer Systems lab, ran cache simulations, and simulated cache hits in graphics to build a "smart" memory controller for predictable and repeatable cache hits.
In 2008, Cathy worked as a Program Management Summer Intern at Microsoft Corporation.
Cathy Chen, Ph.D, P.E. (陳昕), has an extensive education history in the field of electrical engineering. Cathy obtained their Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Cornell University, where they studied from 2005 to 2009.
Subsequently, Cathy attended Columbia Engineering, where they pursued various advanced degrees. Cathy earned a Master of Science (MS) degree in Electrical Engineering from 2009 to 2011. Following that, they pursued additional studies at Columbia Engineering, completing a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from 2011 to 2013. Finally, they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Electrical Engineering from Columbia Engineering, which they pursued from 2009 to 2015.
In addition to their academic qualifications, Cathy Chen has also acquired professional certifications. Cathy obtained certification in "AI for Everyone" from Coursera in April 2020. Moreover, they are also a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.), certified by the California board for professional Engineers, land surveyors, and geologists in March 2018.
