Human Factors Scientist at Exponent

Kelly Michaelis has a diverse work experience starting from 2010. In 2010, they worked as a Regional Director at Chaka Market Bridge, where they organized operations, generated contact networks, and fostered relationships. Later that year, they worked as a Field Organizer at Jeff Barnett for Congress, recruiting, training, and managing volunteers for canvassing events and acting as a liaison to local committees. From 2011 to 2012, they served as an Account Associate at Dewey Square Group and then as a Director of Strategic Partnerships at CG/LA Infrastructure, LLC, where they played roles involving partnerships and account management. In 2013, they worked as a Research Assistant at George Mason University, focusing on topics like timing, auditory-motor coupling, and spatial navigation. From 2014 to 2019, they were part of the Interdisciplinary Program in Neuroscience at Georgetown University, focusing on speech perception, neuroimaging, and cognitive recovery. In 2019, they became a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at The National Institutes of Health, contributing to research projects until 2021. In 2021, they worked as a Grant and Product Development Consultant at Transcendent Endeavors, advising on strategy and writing research aims for grants. Concurrently, they also held the position of Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Georgetown University, leading projects investigating higher-level cognition and STEM-related problem solving. Currently, they are working as a Human Factors Scientist at Exponent, starting in 2023.

Kelly Michaelis completed their education at Georgetown University, where they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Neuroscience from 2014 to 2019. Prior to that, they attended the University of Virginia from 2005 to 2009 and earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus on Global Development.
