Matt Owens

President & CEO at Extraction Oil & Gas

Mr. Owens is Co-Founder and President of Extraction Oil & Gas. From 2008 to 2010, he served as Operations Engineer for Gasco Energy, working with deep, high-pressured gas wells in the Uinta Basin. While at Gasco, he drilled and completed over 50 wells in the Mancos, Blackhawk and Mesaverde formations. In 2010, Mr. Owens moved to PDC Energy as an Operations Engineer, leading the horizontal completion and production activities in the Wattenberg Field. He completed over 45 horizontal Codell and Niobrara wells and was responsible for optimizing production for the program. Mr. Owens holds a BS degree in Petroleum Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines.

Mr. Owens was selected as one of Oil & Gas Investor’s Thirty Under 40 for 2015. Honorees to the list are selected based on professional excellence, leadership initiative, community involvement, creative problem solving, desire to find new challenges and entrepreneurial spirit.

In January of 2016, Mr. Owens was chosen as a member of Forbes 30 Under 30 within the energy sector. Members of the 2016 energy class were chosen based on their innovative, future-focused approaches to the industry that lead to new sources of energy.
