Ian Winfield

Vice President, Product & Applications at Fabric8Labs

Ian Winfield has held a variety of roles in the engineering and product management space. Ian began their career in 2005 as an Applications Engineer at Integran Technologies Inc., where they worked on the development and characterization of nanocrystalline self-lubrication and wear-resistant coatings. In 2007, they moved to PowerMetal Technologies, Inc. as a Prototyping Specialist, where they designed electroplating fixtures to produce sporting equipment prototypes. Ian then returned to Integran Technologies Inc. in the same year as a Senior Project Scientist, where they established a West coast prototyping facility and designed, sourced, and managed multiple pilot-scale electrochemical processing lines. In 2011, they moved to UTC Aerospace Systems as an Engineering Group Manager, leading a team of engineers to support growth of aircraft aftermarket activities and co-authoring two patent applications for aircraft acoustic materials and manufacturing methods. In 2014, they joined Viasat Inc. as a Director, Business Operations - Community Internet, leading the team to successfully launch new retail WiFi services globally. Ian also served as Manager, Airline Programs - Commercial Aviation, leading a team of customer facing Program Managers to deliver and successfully launch Viasat In-Flight Entertainment and Connectivity (IFEC) services for nine commercial airlines. Ian also held the roles of Program Manager, Customer Programs - Commercial Aviation and Program Manager, Development - Commercial Aviation. In 2021, they joined Fabric8Labs as Vice President, Product & Applications and Director of Product.

Ian Winfield has a diverse educational background. Ian completed their high school diploma at Manlius Pebble Hill in 2002. Ian then attended the University of Toronto, where they earned a Bachelor of Applied Science in Materials Science and Engineering in 2007. After that, they returned to the University of Toronto to pursue a Master of Applied Science in Materials Science and Engineering, which they completed in 2010. In 2012, Ian attended San Diego State University, where they earned a Professional Certificate in Project Management. Ian also earned a Master of Business Administration in Business Administration and Management, with a Finance Specialization, from San Diego State University-California State University in 2015.
