Marc Skvirsky

Vice President, Special Initiatives at Facing History and Ourselves

Marc Skvirsky joined Facing History and Ourselves nearly 40 years ago and between 1988-2020 served as Vice President and Chief Program Officer. In his current role, Marc leads our efforts in Board education and donor study trips, and represents Facing History with partners and supporters.

As Chief Program Officer, Marc expanded the program team and transformed the delivery of professional development and curriculum to educators worldwide. Over the years, Marc has designed Facing History-themed international study trips for our community of volunteers, and donors, including to South Africa, Eastern Europe, Northern Ireland, and the American South, and speaks extensively on topics ranging from school reform and civic education, to Holocaust and genocide studies, and social-emotional learning.

Before joining Facing History, Marc was a social studies and English teacher, and participated in the design team for an urban middle school magnet program. He received a B.A. in education and M.Ed. from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
