Faculty of Advocates
Deirdre Flanigan is an experienced legal professional currently serving as an Advocate at the Faculty of Advocates since September 2022. Prior to this role, Deirdre worked as an Associate Solicitor at Thompsons Solicitors & Solicitor Advocates, specializing in Trade Union Employment Law. As a Solicitor at Govan Law Centre from January 2015 to November 2017, Deirdre focused on various areas, including housing law and human rights, while leading the Glasgow Asylum Seekers Project and managing the Public Interest Litigation Unit. Deirdre's background includes serving as the Communications and Outreach Coordinator for the Scottish Human Rights Commission, where advocacy efforts were directed towards promoting human rights in Scotland. Additional experience includes reviewing International Criminal Law decisions for the University of Oxford. Deirdre holds a Diploma in Legal Practice from the University of Edinburgh Law School, a Master of Laws in International Human Rights Law from the Irish Centre for Human Rights at University of Galway, and a Bachelor of Laws (Hons.) from the University of Edinburgh Law School.
