Dr. Charlene Stern (Gwich’in), member, has served on the board since 2015. She is the daughter of Florence Newman and Peter Stern, and is an enrolled tribal member of the Native Village of Venetie Tribal Government. Charlene holds a bachelor of arts in American cultural studies from Western Washington University; an MA in community and regional planning from the University of New Mexico; and a Ph.D. in indigenous studies from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Charlene is an assistant professor in the Department of Alaska Native Studies and Rural Development at UAF. She is also the vice president of Tanana Chiefs Conference, and the interim vice chancellor for rural, community and Native education at UAF.
