Mechele Ford has had a diverse work experience in the healthcare field. Mechele started their career in 1987 as an RN at Memorial Hospital, where they worked until 1989. Mechele then joined The Menninger Clinic in 1989 as an ARNP, where they worked on several units including the eating disorders unit. During their time at The Menninger Clinic, Mechele developed programs for inpatient and day patient programs, led therapies, and supervised day hospital staff. In 1999, they joined the Family Service and Guidance Center as an ARNP and Nursing Operations Coordinator.

Mechele Ford obtained their Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from Washburn University, where they studied from 1983 to 1987. Following that, they pursued their Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree in Psychiatric Nursing from Wichita State University, completing their education from 1989 to 1992.
