Karina De Beule is an experienced communication expert with a distinguished career spanning several decades in various leadership roles. Since 2008, Karina has served as a Board Member and Spokeswoman at the Federal Agency for Nuclear Control (FANC), also holding the position of Senior Communication Expert. In addition, Karina has been a Trainer for Crisis Communication in Nuclear and Radiological Emergencies with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) since December 2012. Previously, Karina was the Chair of the Board at kc nOna until April 2024. Between January 2013 and May 2022, Karina was the Director at the Vlaams Agentschap voor Personen met een Handicap (VAPH) and served as a Board Member and Vice Chair at ARGUS from 1997 to 2016. The Federal Agency for Nuclear Control promotes the effective protection of the general public, workers and the environment against the hazards of ionising radiation. We run campaigns to raise awareness and to promote prevention. We provide information to our stakeholders. * Licensing and monitoring: We carry out regular inspections to check if the licensee observes all applicable regulations and the imposed licensing conditions. We also operate a radiological surveillance system covering the whole Belgian territory. * Managing the unexpected: We develop adequate procedures, in conjunction with our stakeholders, in order to ensure that all parties concerned are notified rapidly and can respond efficiently in the event of an incident or accident involving ionising radiation. * Looking to the future: We put our knowledge of radiation protection up for constant review to make sure that our information is always up-to-date. We collaborate closely with our foreign counterparts. We encourage and monitor scientific research. We provide in training and development for those employed in the nuclear sector.
