Richard McGowan

Richard McGowan has a diverse work experience in various industries. Richard started their career as a Motorcycle Mechanic at Ecosse Motorcycles Ltd in 2003. Richard then moved on to work as an Instrument Technician at Scotech International Services Limited, where they gained technical knowledge in pressure testing equipment for the Oil & Gas Industry. After that, they worked as an E&I Designer at Wood Group PSN, where they developed skills in AutoCAD and other design software.

In 2009, Richard joined Axiom Process Ltd as a Project Engineer, and later became an Engineering Manager in the Sustaining Engineering department. Richard also played a key role in the research and development of shale shaker technology and was responsible for conceptual and detailed design.

Richard's next role was as a Senior Design Engineer at Axiom Process Ltd, where they managed a large-scale project to supply bespoke Solids Control & Fluid Handling Modules for Well Intervention Vessels. Richard ensured product design, manufacture, and supply in accordance with company quality management systems.

Richard then worked as a Package Engineer on contract at Helix Energy Solutions Group, where they managed the installation and commissioning of sub-supplied packages on-board a Well Intervention Vessel.

Richard's work experience also includes roles as a Design Engineer at LDD (Large Diameter Drilling Ltd.), an Engineer (Contract) at Doosan Babcock, and a Business Manager at McGowan Accommodation Agency.

Currently, Richard is the Managing Director at Fathom Group, providing engineering and design services to the energy market with a focus on Oil & Gas, Renewables, Offshore Decommissioning, and Nuclear. The company utilizes agile methods and bespoke software to deliver work scopes efficiently and effectively communicate live status updates to clients. The objective is to make designs that positively impact clients at every level of their organization.

Richard McGowan attended Robert Gordons College from 1992 to 2000. Richard then pursued further education at The University of Edinburgh from 2000 to 2002. In 2021, Richard obtained a certification in Innovation & Growth Catalyst from Entrepreneurial Scotland.
