Zachary Staples is the current Chief Executive Officer at Fathom5. Zachary previously served as the Director of the Center for Cyber Warfare at the Naval Postgraduate School from October 2013 to December 2017. In this role, they led a team of PhD's, graduate students and technical staff in research and development of national and Navy specific cyberspace capabilities. Their research team created the Engineering Enclave for Maritime Security, a first-of-its-kind lab to conduct scientific research into the electronic reliability and maritime cybersecurity of shipboard navigation and control system electronics.

From January 2009 to December 2013, Zachary served as the Chief Staff Officer for Coastal Riverine Squadron Ten. Prior to that, they served as an Electronic Warfare Officer for the 519th Military Intel Battalion from January 2007 to December 2008, and as an Operations Officer for USS PHILIPPINE SEA and USS O'KANE from January 2004 to December 2007.

Zachary Staples began their career with the U.S. Navy in 1995 and served as a Commander until their retirement in 2017.

Zachary Staples graduated from the United States Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering. Zachary then went on to earn their Master of Arts in International Relations from the Naval Postgraduate School.
