Austin Ward has had a varied work experience since 2013. Austin began their career as a Jeff Metcalf Policy and Science Intern at the Environmental Law & Policy Center. Austin then held the role of Jeff Metcalf Strategy Research Intern at The Research Board, and President at MODA at the University of Chicago. From 2013 to 2014, they were a Jeff Metcalf Senior Media Editor, College Information Technology at the University of Chicago. In 2015, they joined The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) as a Consultant and Associate. In 2017, they were a BCG Consultant on Assignment to Integrated Delivery and Associate Strategy Officer, Integrated Delivery (BCG secondee) at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. From 2019 to 2020, they were a Healthcare Investment Director at the Stanford GSB Impact Fund and a Venture Investor at Playground Global. In 2021, they became an Investor at The 21 Fund. Currently, Austin Ward is the Head of Growth and Director of Growth and Strategy at Fathom, where they are using deep learning and NLP to automate medical coding.

Austin Ward has a diverse educational background. Austin obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) from the University of Chicago in 2015, majoring in Law, Letters, & Society and Economics. Austin then pursued two Masters degrees simultaneously, obtaining a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Stanford University Graduate School of Business in 2021, and a Master of Public Administration (MPA) from Harvard Kennedy School in 2022.
