Hugh Thomas has extensive experience in aviation safety and regulatory oversight, currently serving as the Director of Air Carrier Safety Assurance at the Federal Aviation Administration since March 2019. Prior roles at the FAA include Deputy Executive Director of Flight Standards and various management positions within Air Carrier Safety Assurance, demonstrating a strong focus on safety certification. Previously, Hugh held the position of Principal Operations Inspector at FAA AMR CMO and FAA UAL CMO, where oversight of safety and regulations was a key responsibility. Hugh's early career included a managerial role in FAA Flight Standards and as a Pilot Check Airman at Northwest Airlines. Hugh holds a Bachelor's Degree in Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and has further education from The George Washington University.
