Currently serving as Director Security and Sheriff for the Federal Court of Australia, Steve has held various leadership roles, including Deputy Commissioner for Capability Command at the Department of Fire and Emergency Services, overseeing personnel and operations for emergency response. Prior experience includes Director of Security for the Department of the Attorney General and Superintendent of Court Security & Custody Manager at the Department of Justice. Steve's military background includes serving as an Ammunition Technical Officer in the Australian Army. Steve holds multiple degrees in Explosive Ordinance Engineering and Military Studies from esteemed institutions including Cranfield University and UNSW.

The Federal Court was created by the Federal Court of Australia Act 1976 and began to exercise its jurisdiction on 1 February 1977. It assumed jurisdiction formerly exercised in part by the High Court of Australia and the whole jurisdiction of the Australian Industrial Court and the Federal Court of Bankruptcy. The Court is a superior court of record and a court of law and equity. It sits in all capital cities and elsewhere in Australia from time to time.
