Makoto Nakajima

Makoto Nakajima has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. Their most recent position was as a Vice President and Economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, starting in January 2023. Prior to that, they worked as an Economic Advisor and Economist at the same institution from January 2019 to December 2022. Makoto also served as a Senior Economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia from August 2008 to December 2018. Before joining the Federal Reserve, they held the role of Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from August 2004 to August 2008. They also gained experience as a Graduate Summer Intern at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis in 2003 and as an Economist at the Japan Bank for International Cooperation from July 2000 to August 2001. Makoto Nakajima began their career as a Loan Officer at the Export-Import Bank of Japan from April 1994 to July 1998.

Makoto Nakajima pursued their Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations from The University of Tokyo between 1990 and 1994. Following this, they enrolled at the University of Pennsylvania from 1998 to 2004, where they earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Economics.
