James H. Sills III

James H. Sills III is president and chief executive officer of Mechanics and Farmers Bank in Durham, North Carolina. He has three decades of banking and technology management experience with large banking operations, community banks and government organizations.

Sills served as chief information officer for the state of Delaware, leading the Department of Technology and Information as a member of the governor’s cabinet. He led efforts in IT consolidation, cloud computing technology, cyber security and other areas, and was named IT Executive of the Year by Government Technology Magazine in 2014.

Sills serves on the boards of the North Carolina State Chamber of Commerce, Durham County Chamber of Commerce, Carolina Small Business Development Fund, Downtown Durham, and the North Carolina Banking Association, as well as the North Carolina A&T State University and North Carolina Central University Board of Visitors.

Sills received a bachelor of arts degree from Morehouse College in Atlanta, and a master’s of public administration from the University of Pittsburgh.
