Pawan Kumar

Vice President of Technical Operations at Federation Bio

Pawan Kumar has a long and distinguished work experience in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry. Pawan began their career in 1999 as a Graduate Student at Stanford University, where they conceptualized and engineered a novel mode of extender unit acylation of modular polyketide synthases. In 2004, they became a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Postdoctoral Fellow at UC Berkeley, where they identified, cloned, recombinantly expressed, purified and biochemically characterized acyltransferases. In 2005, they joined Bayer Healthcare as a Scientist, where they applied statistical experimental design to elucidate critical process parameters/interactions and established a reduced-scale model of downstream commercial Kogenate bulk manufacturing process. In 2006, they became Associate Director at Alvine Pharmaceuticals Inc, where they were the technical lead responsible for CMC activities for pre-clinical and clinical programs. In 2015, they joined Portola Pharmaceuticals as Associate Director, where they led downstream processing part of the commercial readiness program for Andexanet manufacturing. In 2016, they became Senior Director, Process and Formulation Development at Revance Therapeutics, Inc., where they built, trained and retained a high performance process development group and oversaw cross-functional development and refinement of BLA submission program. Most recently, in 2021, they joined Federation Bio as Vice President of Technical Operations.

Pawan Kumar completed their Bachelor of Technology in Chemical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur between 1995 and 1999. Following this, they completed their PhD in Chemical Engineering from Stanford University between 1999 and 2004.
