Kirstin Vander Giessen-Reitsma has a diverse work experience background. Kirstin started their career as a Co-Director at *culture is not optional in 2002. In 2003, they co-founded and volunteered at World Fare. From 2004 to 2014, Kirstin worked at Calvin College as an Adjunct Instructor and later as an Associate for Research and Program Coordination. Currently, they are the Head Caretaker at the GilChrist Retreat Center at The Fetzer Institute, a position they have held since 2014.

Kirstin Vander Giessen-Reitsma attended North Park University from 1999 to 2001, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree. Kirstin studied Theatre and English Literature during their time at North Park University. Prior to that, Kirstin attended Dordt University from 1997 to 1999, although no degree or field of study information was provided for this period.

In addition to their formal education, Kirstin Vander Giessen-Reitsma obtained a Permaculture Design Certificate in May 2014. Kirstin received this certification from Bartimaeus Cooperative Ministries, under the instruction of Chris Grataski.
