Eng. James N. Mwangi has a diverse work experience spanning over several decades. Eng. James N. currently serves as a Board Member at the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA), a position they have held since May 2021. Prior to this, they served as the Vice President of the FIDIC - International Federation of Consulting Engineers from September 2020.

In 2019, Eng. Mwangi became an Engineering Fellow at The Institution of Engineers of Kenya. Eng. James N. also held the position of Director at the Petroleum Institute of East Africa from November 2004.

Eng. Mwangi's longest tenure was at Kurrent Technologies Ltd, where they served as the Chief Executive Officer. Under their leadership, the company aimed to be the preferred Engineering, Health, Safety, and Environment Consulting Services firm in East and Central Africa. The company received recognition as one of the Top 100 Mized Companies in Kenya for the period 2014/2015.

Earlier in their career, Eng. Mwangi worked at Caltex Oil (K) Ltd as the Regional Engineering Manager from 1990 to 2001 and as a Senior Projects Engineer from 1994 to 1996.

Eng. James N. Mwangi attended Nairobi Primary School for their primary education. Eng. James N. then proceeded to Lenana School, where they completed their high school education from 1975 to 1980. Afterward, they joined the University of Nairobi from 1981 to 1985, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) degree in Engineering with honors, specializing in Mechanical Engineering.
