Sean Perez is a data scientist at Figma, where engagement with data scientists and engineers is a primary focus. Previously, Sean served as a Data Science Fellow at D-Lab, UC Berkeley, leading workshops on R and Python and conducting research on microbial communities. Sean also contributed as a data science consultant, mentor, and workshop developer at various institutions, enhancing skills in data analysis and experimental design. As a PhD student at UC Berkeley, Sean investigated how microbiomes are influenced by ecological factors while utilizing advanced genetic sequencing and statistical techniques. Additional experience includes roles as a machine learning engineer intern at RecoverX and participation in multiple outreach and mentoring initiatives. Sean holds a PhD in Environmental Biology from UC Berkeley and a BS in Biology from SUNY Oneonta.
