Sanjay Uppal

Sanjay Uppal has over 30 years of experience in the financial services industry. Sanjay began their career in 1988 as a Marketing Officer at Wipro Limited. In 1991, they joined Citi as a Management Intern. The following year, they moved to ANZ as a Planning Officer in Retail Banking in India. In 1994, Sanjay began their career with Standard Chartered Bank, where they held various roles, including Chief Financial Officer in the UAE, Global Head of Strategy and Wealth Management, Chief Financial Officer in the Philippines and Taiwan, Head of Group Management Reporting in Consumer Banking, and Head of Finance in Consumer Banking in Indonesia and India. In 2011, they joined Hong Leong Bank Berhad as Group Chief Financial Officer, where they led a US$1.7 billion acquisition of Eon Bank. In 2005, Sanjay became Group Chief Financial Officer of Emirates NBD, where they reshaped the bank's business strategy and operating model and saw total assets grow from $16 billion to $80 billion by 2009. In 2012, they founded StraitsBridge, a fintech recognized among the "Top 10 FinTechs in Singapore" at the MAS Fintech Awards 2020. In 2017, Sanjay founded finbots.AI, an AI envisioned Singapore-based fintech, and also served as a Non-Executive Director of Taurus Wealth. In addition, they have been a Mentor for the F-TEN Business Leadership Program for CFOs since 2012.

Sanjay Uppal's education history includes a High School degree from Mayo College, Ajmer (1979-1983), a B.E. (Hons) in Electrical & Electronics and an M.Sc. (Hons) in Physics from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani (1983-1988), a PGDM (MBA) in Finance & Marketing from Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (1990-1992), and a Strategic Financial Leadership Program from The Wharton School (2014).
