Hannele Korhonen

Director, Member Of Executive Group at Finnish Meteorological Institute

Hannele Korhonen serves as the Director and a member of the Executive Group at the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI) since March 2010, with overarching responsibilities for the Climate Research Programme. Korhonen's leadership spans various roles, including Research Professor focused on climate modelling, and Group Lead managing research groups on atmospheric composition and climate. Additionally, since January 2020, Korhonen has been a member of the Finnish Climate Change Panel, participating as Vice Chair to enhance collaboration between science and policy-making. Previous positions include Senior Research Scientist at the University of Eastern Finland and Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Leeds and FMI. Academic qualifications include a PhD in Physics and a Master's in Theoretical Physics from the University of Helsinki, alongside leadership training from Aalto University and HAUS-Finnish Institute of Public Management.
