Dr. Sathyan David is a Veteran Central Banker having 36 years of experience in the Reserve Bank of India where his main focus areas have been financial regulation and supervision. He has served at senior levels in the Verticals for regulation and supervision of financial sector entities and has specialized in Financial Risk Management and Corporate Governance. At the senior management levels at RBI, he has had substantial experience in the supervision of commercial banks, NBFCs, payment systems and cooperative banks.
He has also been a Member of a Committee of the Financial Stability Board, Basle – Group for Monitoring of the Global Non-Bank Financial Intermediation (NBFI) sector where he was the lead of the NBFC segment. He has been the RBI Nominee Director on the boards of both private sector and public sector banks. He has also participated in several international seminars on central banking policy at the Bank of England, Banco De Espana, Central Bank of Netherlands, Federal Reserve Bank, Bank of Korea and BIS.
Dr. Sathyan David holds a Master's in Economics from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, a Diploma in Risk Management in Banking from INSEAD, Paris, and a Doctorate in International Economics from the University of Madras.
After his retirement from the RBI in 2018, he has been a Programme Director at the Centre for Advanced Financial Research and Learning, Mumbai and subsequently started a freelance consulting firm providing Advisory Services in Financial Regulation, Risk, Corporate Governance and Compliance. Presently, he is an Advisor to NBFCs and banks and is also serving on the Boards of a few Fintech startups.
