Shyla Fukushima's work experience includes roles in various companies. Shyla started their career as a Senior Insurance Agent at GEICO in 2002, where they provided excellent customer service and received recognition as Employee of the Month. Shyla then joined Starn O'Toole Marcus & Fisher, A Law Corporation in 2006 as an Associate, specializing in complex commercial litigation and federal claims defense. In 2011, Shyla joined American Savings Bank, first as Vice President, Associate Counsel, and later as First Vice President, Director of Collections and Recovery Services. Their responsibilities included managing collections services and legal matters. Most recently, they became the Vice President, Consumer Banking Division Compliance Manager at First Hawaiian Bank in 2020.

Shyla Fukushima attended the University of Puget Sound from 1998 to 2002, where they obtained a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Government. Shyla then pursued a Doctor of Law degree from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa - William S. Richardson School of Law, graduating from 2004 to 2007. In 2017, they attended the Pacific Coast Banking School, focusing on Banking and Financial Support Services. Additionally, they obtained a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification from ASQ - World Headquarters in 2017. Prior to their college education, they attended Kamehameha Schools Bishop Estate - Kapalama.
