Gonzalo Mercado

Gonzalo Mercado is a seasoned geologist with extensive experience in the mining industry, currently serving as the VP Exploration & Technical Services at First Majestic Silver Corp. since November 2021. Previously, Gonzalo held several key positions at Barrick Gold Corporation from December 2004 to January 2024, including Senior Exploration Geologist and Project Manager, overseeing multimillion-dollar exploration budgets and leading teams in various stages of project development. Gonzalo's earlier roles included serving as Country Manager for Argentina Exploration and Project Geologist, focusing on gold exploration in high sulphidation and Carlin-type deposits. Additionally, Gonzalo worked as Mineral Resource Manager at Nevada Gold Mines and held an academic position as Auxiliar Teacher in Analytical Geochemistry at the National University of Tucuman. Gonzalo holds a degree in Geology from Universidad Nacional de Tucumán, obtained in 2004.
