Brandon Smith

Brandon Smith is a seasoned professional in mechanical engineering and control systems, currently serving as Manager of Modeling & Simulation at First Mode since December 2020. Prior to this role, Brandon held positions as Senior Software Systems Engineer and Software Group Manager at Tethers Unlimited Inc. from September 2017 to December 2020, leading control systems design for innovative in-space manufacturing projects. Brandon's academic background includes a PhD in Mechanical Engineering with a focus on control systems and dynamics from the University of Washington, as well as a Master’s degree in the same field and extensive research experience as a Graduate Research Assistant. Early career roles included engineering positions at Western Digital, Triumph Aerospace Systems, and an internship with the FAA. Brandon has a proven track record in control techniques and systems design, complemented by a strong foundation in tutoring and education in mathematics and physics.
