Matthew Harmody

Medical Director, EMS And Critical Care Transport at FirstHealth of the Carolinas, Inc.

Matthew Harmody has a diverse and extensive work experience. Matthew began their career at BP, where they held various positions and was recognized with the President's Annual Innovation Award. Matthew later became an investor in multiple companies such as The Money Channel, Inc, Xtreme Oil & Gas, and Gran Pacifica.

In 2001, Harmody joined Sandhills Emergency Physicians as a partner and staff emergency physician, also serving as the medical director for the 2005 U.S. Open. Matthew later became the president of the company and the medical director at Moore Regional Hospital.

Harmody also worked at FirstHealth of the Carolinas, where they served as the medical director for EMS and critical care transport, as well as the chief of medical staff and the medical director for the emergency department at the Hoke Campus.

Their most recent role is as a retired emergency physician, where they are committed to creating transformational change in kidney donation by advocating for legislation, educating stakeholders, and reducing barriers to donation.

Matthew Harmody has a strong education background in the medical field. Matthew completed an M.D. in the Emergency Medicine Residency Program at the Departments of Emergency Medicine, UNC Hospitals from 1997 to 2000. Prior to that, they obtained an MD from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine from 1993 to 1997. Matthew also holds an MBA in Finance from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University, which they received from 1984 to 1988. Their undergraduate education includes a BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati from 1979 to 1984. Additionally, Matthew Harmody has a high school diploma from St. Ignatius High School, which they earned from 1975 to 1979. Matthew also has a board certification in Emergency Medicine from the American Board of Emergency Medicine.
