Robert C. Christenson

Bob Christenson is a partner in the firm's Atlanta office. Since 1974 -- the year the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) was enacted -- Bob has significant experience in all aspects of employee benefits law, concentrating on Taft-Hartley multiemployer plans, collective bargaining, and ERISA litigation.

Bob has extensive experience with benefits issues in mergers and acquisitions, as well as with amendment and termination of pension plans and retiree health benefits in bankruptcy. Bob represents employers in connection with government 401(k) and welfare plan audits, and he regularly deals with plan correction programs established by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and Department of Labor (DOL).

Bob advises plan fiduciaries with respect to their obligations under ERISA, and he conducts reviews of benefit plans and plan procedures to ensure legal compliance. Bob also advises clients about their Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) obligations, and about Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requirements with respect to plan design, privacy, and security.

He is experienced with all types of benefit plans in both the private and not-for-profit sectors, including qualified plans, non-qualified executive compensation plans, and welfare plans such as insured and self-insured health arrangements, disability plans, life insurance plans, cafeteria plans, Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), Flex Spending Accounts (FSAs) and Health Reimbursement Accounts (HRAs).

Bob is "AV" Peer Review Rated by Martindale-Hubbell and, in 2004, was selected for inclusion in Georgia Super Lawyers for his work in the employee benefits and ERISA practice area.
