Ethan Y. Lucas

Project Director at FishWise

Ethan Y. Lucas is the Project Director at FishWise. Prior to their current position, they worked as a Knauss Marine Policy Fellow at NOAA Coral Reef Watch from February 2011 to January 2012. In this role, they identified satellite-derived data products that were capable of addressing issues faced by coral reef managers in the field. Ethan also aligned U.S. jurisdiction-level and national-level goals and objectives for coral reef management with near-future and newly-operational NOAA/NESDIS/STAR satellite-derived data products. The results of their analysis identified and recommended satellite-derived data products for STAR funding and from which the greatest cross-jurisdictional benefit in addressing U.S. coral reef management goals and objectives would be provided.

Before working at NOAA Coral Reef Watch, Lucas was a Junior Specialist at the National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis (NCEAS) from June 2010 to February 2011. In this role, they developed policy briefs for high-level findings from the NCEAS Crowder-Smith Working Group's work on reclassifying seafood production methods to inform the development of the NOAA and Department of Commerce Aquaculture Policies. These policy briefs contributed to the development of the U.S. Offshore Aquaculture Regulatory Framework.

Ethan Y. Lucas received a BS in Aquaculture and Fisheries Technology from the University of Rhode Island and a Master's of Marine Affairs from the University of Washington. Ethan is also certified from NAUI Worldwide as a NAUI Dive Instructor #39484.

They work with Lindsay Jennings - Project Director, Jessie Zupcic - Project Director, and Barbara Lenssen - Director of Human Resources. Ethan Y. Lucas reports to Joan Eads, Interim Executive Director.
