Shelli DiFranco has a diverse work experience in communications and marketing roles. Shelli is currently the Director of Marketing and Public Engagement at Five Rivers MetroParks since March 2020. Prior to this, they worked as the Media Officer at the Society for Freshwater Science starting in August 2019. From August 2019 to March 2020, they were a Communications Consultant at Timber Digital, a marketing and communication firm focused on helping clients tell their story and make a positive impact in their communities.
Before their time at Timber Digital, Shelli served as the Director of Community Engagement at The Watershed Center from April 2017 to August 2019, where they led marketing and communications efforts and directed fundraising events that raised substantial funds. From April 2014 to January 2017, they were the Senior Manager of Corporate Communications and Community Relations at Hagerty, overseeing corporate communications, community relations, and corporate responsibility initiatives.
Prior to their role at Hagerty, Shelli worked at Edelman from November 2011 to April 2014, starting as an Account Supervisor for Business + Social Purpose. At Edelman, they managed teams and implemented strategic communications plans for clients in various industries. From June 2007 to November 2011, Shelli served as the Communications & Outreach Manager at WRD Environmental, where they coordinated marketing, external communications, and social media for the Chicago Department of Environment. Shelli started their career as a Communications Intern at the City of Chicago Department of Environment from November 2006 to May 2007, working on communication and outreach for the Blue Cart Recycling Program.
Shelli also has experience as a Naturalist Intern at Centerville-Washington Park District, where they created environmental educational programs for children and collaborated with camp counselors on educational strategies.
Shelli DiFranco has a diverse education history. In 2003, they enrolled at Loyola University Chicago and pursued a degree in Journalism. During their time at Loyola University, Shelli focused on Environmental Science, Anthropology, and Peace Studies. Shelli successfully completed their degree in 2007.
In 2018, Shelli attended Lactation Education Consultants and obtained a certification as a Certified Lactation Specialist. This certification was in addition to their degree in Journalism.
In 2019, Shelli further expanded their education by attending the Traverse Area Chamber of Commerce, where they completed a program called Leadership Grand Traverse. This program did not result in a degree, but it provided their with valuable knowledge and skills in leadership.
Most recently, in 2022, Shelli participated in Leadership Dayton at the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce. Again, this was not a degree program, but it allowed their to develop their leadership abilities.
