Preston Benson has a diverse range of work experience in the media industry. Preston began their career as a News Associate Producer, Editor, and Friday Night Football Producer at WGNO ABC26 News in 2001. During their time there, they assisted in the development, writing, and execution of both broadcast and web-based multimedia content. Preston also edited video content and created a records and archive data management system.

In 2003, Benson joined WLOX-TV as a News Producer and Multimedia Web Producer. Preston produced morning and weekend newscasts, and they gained recognition for their coverage of Hurricane Katrina, which earned their station the prestigious George Foster Peabody Award.

From 2007 to 2008, Benson worked as a News Producer and Multimedia Web Producer at KUSA-TV 9NEWS. Preston produced hour-long newscasts, served as a writer and weekday fill-in producer, and contributed to the station's website. Preston also utilized iNews and Deckocast broadcasting software for writing, editing, and producing news content.

Benson then joined WHNT News 19 in 2009 as a News Producer, Associate Director, and Multimedia Web Producer. Preston managed news content for the station's website and social media accounts, including writing scripts and managing video and graphics. Preston also played a key role in the development, coordination, management, and execution of live daily news broadcasts.

In 2013, Benson was promoted to Executive Producer at WHNT News 19. In this role, they led a team of production specialists, producers, and reporters in producing news content across multiple broadcast and digital media platforms. Preston held daily team meetings to coordinate concept development, resources, and quality control. Preston also proofread content for team members and ensured its dissemination across various multimedia platforms.

Most recently, Benson joined Five Stones Research Corporation in 2018 as a Strategic Communications Specialist.

Preston Benson completed their education with a Bachelor's degree from The University of Southern Mississippi in 2001. Preston pursued a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Management, which they achieved after attending the university from 1998 to 2001. Prior to that, they graduated with an Associate's degree in Business Administration from Southwest Mississippi Community College in 1998, where they studied from 1996 to 1998.
