John Gawel is an experienced engineering manager specializing in firmware design and software development. Currently serving as the Manager of Firmware Design at SPX Aids to Navigation since May 2014, John focuses on updating products with modern communication technologies and writing firmware for obstruction lighting systems. Prior to this role, John contributed to the F6 project at the Institute for Software Integrated Systems, Vanderbilt University, developing an open-source operating system and SDK for fractionated spacecraft under DARPA. As Senior Manager of Engineering at Toshiba America Information Systems, John successfully led a team of approximately 25 engineers in the development of digital television products globally, achieving project launches on time and under budget. John's early career includes positions as a Software Engineer at Quake Modular Technologies and Software Manager at SBS Embedded Computers, where expertise in BIOS, device drivers, and application development was cultivated. John holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from North Carolina State University.
