Kaira Kelly-Howard

State Regional Literacy Director at The Florida Department of Education

Kaira Kelly-Howard, Ph.D., serves as the State Regional Literacy Director for The Florida Department of Education since September 2022, and has held the role of Adjunct Instructor at both the State University of New York Cortland and the University of Central Florida since June 2023 and August 2021, respectively. Kaira has developed online course modules for preservice teachers focusing on the science of reading, while also supervising and providing feedback to elementary education interns. Kaira's previous experience includes roles at Orange County Public Schools as Interventions Program Specialist, Elementary ELA Program Specialist, and Intensive Reading and Language Arts Teacher, where Kaira implemented standards-aligned curricula and provided remedial instruction. Kaira's educational background includes a Doctor of Philosophy in Education with a Reading Track from the University of Central Florida, along with additional degrees in Reading Education, Curriculum and Instruction, and Elementary Education.
