Nate Slater

Member of Founding Team, Head of Architecture and Solutions at Flip

Nate Slater has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Nate is currently a member of the founding team and the Head of Architecture and Solutions at Flip since December 2022. Before that, they worked at Amazon Web Services (AWS) in various roles. Nate was a Senior Practice Manager in the Global Healthcare & Lifesciences Advisory from November 2021 to December 2022, where they helped HCLS customers leverage the power of AWS for business transformation. Prior to that, they were the Global Team Leader of the Amazon Machine Learning Solutions Lab from October 2018 to November 2021, leading a global team to deliver bespoke ML solutions for strategic AWS customers. Nate also worked as a Business Development Manager, focusing on cloud economics and competitive intelligence from May 2017 to October 2018, where they created playbooks and provided support for competitive deals with Google Cloud Platform. Additionally, they were a Principal Solutions Architect & Senior Manager from January 2014 to May 2017, working closely with Bay Area companies across various industries to design scalable and cost-effective architectures in AWS.

Before their time at AWS, Nate held positions at Genomic Health, Inc. and Perlegen Sciences. At Genomic Health, Inc., they were a Senior Manager of Commercial Software Engineering from 2010 to 2014, responsible for managing software engineering teams and leading IT cloud initiatives. Nate also served as a Staff Software Engineer from 2008 to 2010, leading software releases and system architecture design. At Perlegen Sciences, they worked as a Senior Software Engineer / Senior IS Manager from 2005 to 2008, managing a group of software and QA engineers for high-throughput DNA microarray and pyro-sequencing pipelines.

Nate's earlier experiences include a managerial role at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory from 2001 to 2005, where they managed a team of software engineers and database administrators in the production bioinformatics department. Nate also worked as a Server Engineer at Organic from 2000 to 2001 and as a Unix System Support Engineer at Morgan Stanley from 1997 to 1998.

Nate Slater earned their Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry from Yale University, where they studied from 1992 to 1997. Prior to attending Yale, they completed their secondary education at The Pingry School from 1985 to 1992. Additionally, Nate obtained various certifications including Bayesian Statistics: From Concept to Data Analysis from Coursera in August 2020, Introduction to Data Science in Python from Coursera in November 2017, AWS Solution Architect - Professional from Amazon Web Services in December 2014, AWS SysOps Administrator - Associate from Amazon Web Services in December 2014, and AWS Solution Architect - Associate from Amazon Web Services in March 2014.
