Nicole Patton Terry

Director at Florida Center for Reading Research (FCRR)

Nicole Patton Terry has extensive experience in the field of education and research. Nicole is currently the Director at the Florida Center for Reading Research (FCRR) since October 2020. Before that, they served as the Associate Director at FCRR from August 2018 to September 2020. In addition, they are the Olive & Manuel Bordas Professor of Education at Florida State University since August 2018.

Prior to their positions at FCRR and Florida State University, Nicole worked at Georgia State University. Nicole held the role of Associate Professor from August 2013 to July 2018, during which they also served as the Director of The Urban Child Study Center. Before that, they were an Assistant Professor at Georgia State University from August 2006 to 2013.

Nicole's career began at Haskins Laboratories, where they worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow from August 2004 to July 2006. Nicole also gained experience as a Learning Disabilities Resource Room Teacher at Dawes Elementary School from August 2002 to June 2004.

Nicole Patton Terry's education history includes a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Human Communication Sciences from Northwestern University, which they obtained between 1995 and 1999. Nicole continued their education at the same institution and pursued a Master of Science (MS) in Learning Disabilities from 1999 to 2001. Finally, Nicole Patton Terry completed their academic journey at Northwestern University with a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Communication Sciences and Disorders, specializing in Learning Disabilities, between 1999 and 2004.
