Derrick Elias has extensive experience in labor and employee relations, currently serving as the Labor and Employee Relations Manager at the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity since September 2017, where responsibilities include reviewing and resolving employment disputes and investigating grievances. From August 1999 to April 2018, Derrick held elected office as a Quincy City Commissioner and Mayor, serving as mayor for seven years. Prior to this, Derrick was the Equal Employment Opportunity Officer at the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice from June 1994 to September 2017, managing complaints related to employment discrimination and conducting relevant training. Derrick began a career in human resources at Robins Air Force Base and held the title of Assistant Personnel Officer at the Florida Department of Corrections. Derrick earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and Public Management from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University.
