Avrum H.

Lead Firmware Engineer at Flosonics Medical

Avrum H. has held various engineering positions since 2005. In 2005, they were a Research Assistant at the Input Devices and Music Interaction Lab, where they designed optically-sensed musical interfaces, physical modelling synthesis algorithms, and embedded systems for real-time performance. From 2006 to 2014, they were a Research Engineer at the Montreal Neurological Institute, Cognitive Neuroscience Unit, where they designed and built MRI-compatible musical instruments for neuroimaging studies. From 2014 to 2016, they were a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences, where they designed an Ethernet-connected optical acquisition system for fMRI experiments and worked with neuroscientists and neurologists on an MRI-compatible piano and an MRI-compatible device to assess post-stroke motor deficits. Since 2016, they have been a Senior Engineer, Hardware and Embedded Systems at Nymi, and since 2021, they have been a Senior Hardware Engineer at Flosonics Medical.

Avrum H. completed a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Embedded Systems, Optical Sensing, and Musical Interfaces for Functional Neuroimaging at McGill University from 2008 to 2014. Prior to this, they obtained a Master's Degree in Design of fMRI-Compatible Electronic Musical Interfaces from McGill University from 2006 to 2008. Avrum H. began their academic career with a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Waterloo from 2001 to 2006.
