Daan Louter has a diverse work experience that spans over a decade. Daan began their career as a Journalist at Klaroen in 2008 before becoming a Resident DJ at Bibelot in 2009. From 2009 to 2011, Daan worked as a New Media Strategies & Social Media Manager at Kraak & Smaak, where they were responsible for online marketing, promotion, and website design. Daan then interned as an Interaction Design Intern at Fabrique [merken, design & interactie] in 2011.
Daan also had a freelance career from 2010 to 2014, during which they took on various projects. Daan contributed to Eclectro, a Dutch blog about electronic music, where they wrote and designed content.
In 2013, Daan joined The Guardian as an Interactive Designer and Developer in the Guardian Interactive Team. Over the course of four years, they built numerous interactive journalism projects for the newsroom. Daan also worked as a Graduate Intern at The Guardian earlier in 2013.
Most recently, Daan has been with Flourish since 2017. Daan started as the Head of Design and Newsrooms, overseeing platform design, data visualization templates, branding, and marketing efforts leading up to the beta launch. After the launch, Daan's responsibilities expanded to include getting Flourish into newsrooms and establishing it as the primary data visualization tool for journalists. Daan currently holds the role of Head of Product at Flourish.
Daan Louter obtained a Bachelor's degree in Communication & Multimedia Design from Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences, where they studied from 2009 to 2013. In 2008, they completed a Propeadeutic degree in Journalism at Fontys University of Applied Sciences. In 2015, Daan briefly pursued Industrial and Product Design at Central Saint Martins, University of The Arts London. Furthermore, in 2018 they attended King's College London to study Turkish Language level 2 for a year.
