Naufer Nusran

Senior Research Engineer at Folio Photonics

Naufer Nusran has a wealth of experience in the engineering and research fields. Naufer began their career in 2006 as a Laboratory Instructor and Network Administrator at the University of Colombo. From 2007 to 2014, they worked as a Graduate Research Assistant and Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Pittsburgh. Naufer then joined the Ames Laboratory as an Assistant Scientist III, where they developed hardware and software for a next-generation scanning probe quantum sensing (NV-SPM) and a tuning fork based low-temperature magnetic force microscopy (LT-MFM). Naufer also characterized superconductors and magnetic materials using NV optical magnetometry, SEM, and EDS. Additionally, they designed scanning nano probe cantilever structures, fabricated scanning probes using laser lithography, e-beam lithography, and reactive ion etch, and prepared research grant applications. Naufer currently works as a Senior Research Engineer for Folio Photonics, Inc.

Naufer Nusran obtained their High School degree from D. S. Senanayake College, Colombo 07, Sri Lanka in 2001. Naufer then attended the University of Colombo, where they earned a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in 2006, majoring in Physics and minoring in Computer Science & Statistics. From 2007 to 2008, they obtained a Master of Science (MS) in Physics from the University of Pittsburgh. Naufer continued their studies at the University of Pittsburgh and earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Physics in 2014. In addition to their academic credentials, Naufer Nusran also holds certifications in Machine Learning with Python: A Practical Introduction from IBM (2020), Fundamentals of Digital Image and Video Processing from Northwestern University (2020), and First Order Optical System Design from University of Colorado Boulder (2019).
