Daan Appels

Daan Appels is an experienced investigative journalist currently working at Follow the Money since July 2019. Previous roles include serving as a journalist at De Gelderlander from May 2011 to May 2019, where responsibilities encompassed investigative journalism, court reporting, politics, and sports. Daan also contributed as a writer for Discover Benelux Magazine and worked as a tutor and exam trainer at Het 4e Gymnasium. Research and writing for a documentary film plan about the national football team of Palestine were undertaken at Submarine. Additional freelance journalism was provided to De Persdienst, and an internship at Club Brugge involved interviews on social media strategies in football. Daan holds a master's degree in Political Communication from the University of Amsterdam, a minor in Communication Science/Marketing from Universidade Nova de Lisboa, and a bachelor's degree in Communication Science from Radboud University.
