Jonas Depecker is a dedicated researcher currently serving as an FWO PhD fellow in fundamental research at Research Foundation Flanders since November 2020 and as a doctoral researcher at Jardin botanique Meise since October 2019. Jonas has also undertaken a research stay as a doctoral researcher at Università di Pisa from March to May 2024, focusing on phylogenetic and functional diversity related to forest degradation and regrowth in the Congo Basin. Prior experience includes a doctoral research role at KU Leuven examining the impact of disturbances on wild coffee populations in the Congo Basin, a junior research assistant position at Vrije Universiteit Brussel where DNA extractions and polymerase chain reactions were performed, and an internship at INBO modeling resident barnacle goose populations. Jonas holds a Master of Science in Biology, specializing in ecology and biodiversity, from Vrije Universiteit Brussel, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the same institution.
