Joost Besijn is an experienced environmental professional currently serving as Executive Director at Food Alliance since January 2025. Previously, Joost held the position of Division Director for the Eastern Division at American Conservation Experience from July 2022 to March 2025. Joost has extensive experience in program management, having worked as Program Manager at Jefferson County Noxious Weed Control Board from June 2015 to July 2022, where responsibilities included managing environmental compliance programs and developing outreach campaigns. Joost also served as an Independent Consultant at Scio Terra Environmental Consulting, focused on ecological restoration projects, and as Wildlife Biologist 2 for the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation, overseeing habitat management efforts. Joost began a career as a Game Ranger at Sabi Sabi Private Game Reserve and holds a Master of Science in Conservation Biology from The Manchester Metropolitan University and a Bachelor of Science in Wildlife and Wildlands Science and Management from Van Hall Larenstein University of Applied Sciences.
