Stephen Haralampu has worked in a variety of roles in the food and biotechnology industries since 1984. Stephen began their career as a Senior Engineer at Ocean Spray Cranberries and then moved to Enzytech in 1988. In 1991, they became the Director of R&D at Opta Food Ingredients, Inc. where they focused on developing starch and hydrocolloid-based products for fat reduction and texture modification of foods. In 2001, they founded Haralampu Consulting and provided technical consulting for process development in the food and biotechnology industries. In 2003, they became the Director of RD&E at Protein Forest, Inc. and directed the development of products from prototype through commercialization. In 2010, they co-founded Life Sciences Group, Inc. and provided technical product commercialization guidance. In 2012, they re-organized Life Sciences Group, Inc. as Beta Innovations LLC and provided product development and commercialization services to clients developing instruments for life science and diagnostics laboratories. In 2021, they became the Chief Technology Officer of ForeLight, Inc. where they are developing state-of-the-art photobioreactors for growing microalgae and cyanobacteria.
Stephen Haralampu attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1973 to 1983, where they earned a SB in Chemical Engineering in 1977, an SM in Applied Biology in 1977, and an ScD in Applied Biology in 1983.
