Monitoring, Reporting, And Verification Manager at Forest Carbon Works

Galen Maennicke has a wealth of experience in forestry and carbon analysis. From 2008 to 2021, they have held various roles in the forestry industry. In 2021, they began working as a Senior Carbon Analyst for Forest Carbon Works, where they carry out carbon stocking analyses for landowners, provides quality assurance of cruise data, and assists in the delivery of high-quality documents, maps, and reports. From 2017 to 2021, they worked as a Graduate Research Assistant at UBC Faculty of Forestry, where they conducted research on the economic impacts of adopting more sustainable management practices, assisted with undergraduate and master's courses, and edited manuscripts of other graduate students and post-docs. In 2014, they served as a Forestry and Agriculture Extension Agent for the Peace Corps, where they performed individual farm consultations, trained farmers in record-keeping and basic accounting, and directed trainings using local language skills. From 2013 to 2014, they worked as a Forester for Washington Forestry Consultants, Inc., where they created forest management plans, prepared timber harvest units, organized vegetation management workload audits, and inventoried utility transmission and distribution systems. In 2013, they also worked as a Forestry Technician (temp) for the US Forest Service, where they applied silvicultural prescriptions, performed timber cruising, and laid out sale boundaries. In 2012, they worked as an Urban & Utility Forester (contract) for The Davey Resource Group, where they inspected the utility right-of-way, managed and updated a large tree inventory database, and discussed and negotiated line-clearance crew access issues and tree removals with property owners. In 2010, they worked as a Silviculture Lab Assistant (temp) for Northern Arizona University, where they assisted with a study examining the effects of prescribed burning on plant communities and species, and analyzed data in FFI to determine species abundance. In 2008, they worked as a Forestry Technician (temp) for the US Forest Service, where they conducted forest inventories, assisted the district fuels specialist, and conducted forest thinning treatments.

Galen Maennicke holds an MSc in Forest Resource Management from The University of British Columbia, and a BS in Forestry from Northern Arizona University. Galen also has several certifications, including a Wilderness First Responder from SOLO Wilderness Medicine obtained in January 2013, a Certified Arborist from the International Society of Arboriculture obtained in February 2012, a Certified Timber Cruiser from the US Forest Service Region 5, and a Fire Ecology and Management Certificate from Northern Arizona University.
