Gary Barrett

Gary Barrett currently serves as the Director at the U.S. Forest Service and has held multiple leadership roles within the agency since August 2020. In addition, Gary Barrett is an Associate Professor at the Virginia Tech Center for Leadership in Global Sustainability and an Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University's Walsh School of Foreign Service. Previous experience includes positions as Senior Policy Advisor at USDA and USAID, as well as Deputy Director roles within various offices at USAID. Educational credentials consist of a Senior Executive Fellow designation from the Harvard Kennedy School, an International Diploma in Humanitarian Assistance from Fordham University, a Master’s degree in Forestry from Yale School of the Environment, and a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Science from Morehouse College.
