Christopher Kiel

Materials Scientist

Christopher Kiel is a seasoned materials scientist currently employed at Formlabs since July 2023, focusing on the development of new resins and coordinating hardware material sourcing for new products. Prior experience includes a role as a materials associate engineer at SpaceX, where responsibilities involved manufacturing reliability testing for heat shield thermal protection systems. Christopher has also engaged in research on oxygen-compatible coatings for turbine blades at Cordero Lab and completed a materials intern position at SpaceX, qualifying Thermal Protection Systems for the Dragon Program. Leadership roles in the MIT Solar Electric Vehicle Team encompassed systems and aerodynamics/composites, complemented by internships at Ford Motor Company and the Photonic Materials Lab at MIT. Educational credentials include a Master’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology and a Bachelor’s degree in the same field from MIT. Christopher’s foundational education was completed at Princeton Day School, culminating in a high school diploma.
