Charles Liang (Cheng-Yen)

Mechanical Maintenance Engineer at Formosa Plastics

Charles (Cheng-Yen) Liang has a diverse range of work experience in engineering and research. Charles (Cheng-Yen) is currently working as a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer at Formosa Plastics Corporation, U.S.A., where they manage capital projects and collaborates with vendors for design reviews and procurement. Before that, they were a Mechanical Engineer at Testengeer Engineering, where they reviewed drawings, prepared bid packages, and evaluated contractor quotes.

Prior to their industry experience, Charles worked as a Graduate Research Assistant at the University of California, Los Angeles. There, they developed a computational model to study magnetoelectric coupling in strain-mediated MeRAM and performed experimental studies in multiferroic composites. Charles (Cheng-Yen) also analyzed the mechanism of magnetoelectric interaction through numerical modeling.

Charles's early research experience includes being a Graduate Research Assistant at National Taiwan University. During this time, they designed high-frequency fiber Bragg grating transducers/sensors and developed analysis codes using MATLAB. Charles (Cheng-Yen) also worked on identifying natural frequencies in piezoelectric plate actuators using impedance analyzers.

Charles (Cheng-Yen) Liang has a strong background in Mechanical Engineering. Charles (Cheng-Yen) obtained a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from National Chung Cheng University, where they studied from 2001 to 2005. Charles (Cheng-Yen) then pursued a Master's degree in the same field at National Taiwan University, from 2005 to 2007. Building upon their foundation, they went on to earn a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Mechanical Engineering at UCLA, where they studied from 2010 to 2016.
